About the Event
If you’re a newcomer or permanent resident, some legal situations can affect more than you expect. Family changes, interactions with the law (even minor ones), and travel or sponsorship responsibilities can impact your PR status and future immigration plans.
This free online session shares practical legal information to help you understand common risks and make informed choices as you settle in Canada.
During this session, you will learn about:
How family law matters, such as separation, divorce, or annulment, can impact immigration status and permanent residency
How criminal charges, including minor offences, may affect permanent residency, admissibility, or future immigration and citizenship applications
Key differences in laws, rights, and everyday “common sense” in Canada, and how misunderstandings can lead to legal issues
Other important legal considerations for permanent residents, including maintaining status, travel concerns, sponsorship obligations, and common legal pitfalls
