On May 29, 2025, Kababayan Multicultural Centre (KMC) held our Backpack Program at Bathurst-Finch Hub in partnership with Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA).
It was a meaningful event that gave more than just school supplies. It brought smiles, excitement, and a sense of belonging to newcomers who had just received a warm welcome from the community, an encouraging gift as they prepare for the school year ahead.
The impact went beyond the gifts they received. For many, it was a moment of financial relief and emotional warmth. One parent, Marydjelle Tolentino, shared:
We were so happy to receive two beautiful backpacks for my daughters through the Program. As a parent, it was a big help financially, but more than that—it brought so much joy and excitement to my kids! As you can see in the photos, they couldn’t wait to try them on. Thank you for making moments like this possible for families like ours. Your kindness truly made a difference.

Another recipient, Reynalin Labasan, added:
Dear Kababayan Multicultural Centre, I am grateful for including my daughter on the list of backpack recipients. She is so happy and thankful about it. We're hoping that the community will continue to extend help to those in need and newcomers like us. May our Lord abundantly bless the community. Thank you also to KMC.
We’re also deeply touched by the message from Trinity Bagawe, who wrote:
A big thank you to all Kababayan Multicultural Center members for their invaluable support to newcomers. We're especially grateful to our Settlement Counsellor for her consistent guidance and timely updates. Maraming Salamat po.

Finally, Melanie Asuncion gave encouraging words:
I want to express my deepest gratitude to the staff of KMC for their commitment, professionalism, and the kindness they showed us as newcomers. The Backpack Program made a real difference for our family, and we appreciate all the support in helping us settle into this new community.
At KMC, we believe in supporting newcomers not only with programs and services but with genuine care, which involves working with organizations with the same mission. Through ACSA’s generous support and collaboration, newcomer students received the tools they need to thrive in the classroom.
We also want to give a shout-out to our volunteers, Angelita Cordes and Adelaida Delmonte, who helped us during the event.
We’re grateful to ACSA, our team, and every family who trusted us to be part of their journey. Here’s to more community-led efforts that help our youth feel confident, prepared, and excited for school, one backpack at a time.
